Welcome

The ASEM Education and Research Hub for Lifelong Learning is an umbrella network for university cooperation in Lifelong Learning Research between Asia and Europe. The Hub creates a platform for dialogue between researchers and educational policy makers.

The Hub's operation is a part of the ASEM education process and a partner of the Asia Europe Foundation. The Hub brings together 70 researchers in its 5 research networks, senior representatives of 34 universities in its council and has an advisory board of representatives from ministries of education and international organisations. It was launched at the  Copenhagen conference in May 2005 and has since then organised a wide range of network meetings, research seminars, conferences and publications.

  • The Hub is promoting cooperation among Asian and European countries with regard to evidence-based research, research-informed practice and research-based policy.
  • The Hub is a network for higher education institutions to develop cross-country comparative research, joint teaching and learning projects
  • The Hub is a research observatory for new basic skills, core competences and their implementation in educational systems and workplace learning.

The five research networks within the Hub are:

1. Development of ICT skills, e-learning and the culture of e-learning in Lifelong Learning.

2. Competence development as Workplace Learning

3. Professionalisation of Lifelong Learning with a special emphasis on teacher training.

4. National strategies of Lifelong Learning with regard to citizens' motivation and barriers against continuing education and training.
