ASEM Education and Research Hub for Lifelong Learning (the ASEM LLL Hub)

Established in 2005, the ASEM LLL Hub is an umbrella network of Asian and European higher education institutions, committed to supporting quality research in the field of lifelong learning and to pursuing excellence by mutual peer learning. Its five research networks exchange knowledge, conduct comparative research and produce coordinated publications and reports. They also facilitate researcher and student mobility and exchange within and between the two world regions.

The ASEM LLL Hub provides a platform for dialogue between researchers, practitioners and policy makers in order to create foundations for evidence-based educational reforms. In parallel with five active research networks, the Hub currently has a council of 30 university management representatives and an advisory board, representing 20 national ministries and 5 international organisations.

Partnership organisation:

  • Five research networks' members (researcher individual partnership)
  • Council of University management representatives (institutional partnership)
  • Advisory Board of ministerial representatives (governmental partnership) and international organisations. The chairmanship of the Advisory Board is held by the Hungarian Ministry of Education and Culture and the Thai Ministry of Education
  • ASEM LLL Hub Secretariat and Chairmanship is led by the Danish School of Education, Denmark

The five research networks are:

  • Development of ICT skills, e-learning and the culture of e-learning in LLL, Coordinator:Professor Bowon Kim, Korea National Open University, Korea
  • Competence development as workplace learning, Coordinator: Professor Lynne Chisholm, Danish School of Education, Aarhus University, Denmark
  • Professionalisation of lifelong learning and the infrastructure of LLL with special emphasis on teacher training, Coordinator: Professor Ekkehard Nuissl, Duisburg/Essen University, Germany
  • National Strategies for lifelong learning with regard to citizens? motivation and barriers to continuing education and training, Coordinator: Director Xianjin Dou, China National Institute of Education Research Development, China
  • Core Competences, Coordinator:Professor Soonghee Han, Seoul National University,Korea
