International Conference on Lifelong Learning (ICLL): Ensuring Basic Skills for ALL  under the spirit of Partners, Pathways and Pedagogies

This International Lifelong Learning Conference aims to identify and bring together the various partners involved with lifelong learning - educators from all sectors, industry representatives, policy makers and government agencies and lifelong learners themselves. "Ensuring Basic Skills for All" is chosen as the main theme with regard to the effort of  ASEM Education Hub Meetings which involved partners from Europe and Asia in Copenhagen, Denmark in 2005 and Bangkok, Thailand in 2006. The conference is jointly organized  by the National University of Malaysia (UKM) and Danish School of Education, University of Århus, Denmark with the support from the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Asia-Europe Institute, Malaysia.

Objectives

The general objectives of this conference is to provide a forum for debate on the principles and practices of lifelong learning whether in formal, institutional or informal, non-institutional settings. Specifically, the objectives of this conference are:

- To provide a forum for sharing and learning the latest ideas, developments and research findings on lifelong learning from diverse socio-cultural and geopolitical backgrounds.

- To identify issues that can increase interest, achievements and involvements in life long learning of learners from diverse socio-cultural and geopolitical backgrounds.

- To compare and contrast the best practices of lifelong learning from diverse socio-cultural and geopolitical backgrounds.

- To gain insights in the areas where lifelong learning can provide and improve quality of life.

- To strengthen linkages and encourage networking amongst world educators, administrators and leaders in the field of lifelong learning.

Main theme "Ensuring Basic Skills for ALL under the spirit of Partners, Pathways and Pedagogies".

Sub-themes

- Development of ICT skills, e-learning and the culture of e-learning in life long learning.

- Competence development as workplace learning.

- National lifelong learning strategies with regard to citizens' motivation and barriers to continuing education and training.

- Professionalisation of life long learning and the infrastructure of LLL with special emphasis on teacher training.

Sub-themes areas

Curriculum development, Assessment, Evaluation, In-service training, Professional development, Professional Learning, Pedagogy, Information literacy, Policy, Ethics, Social justice, equity and access, Transitions and recognized prior learning.
